The shortest honest safari we run, and it still delivers both headline parks.
This is the itinerary we build for people adding a safari to something else, whether a Kilimanjaro climb, a work trip to Arusha or a week on the coast. Three days, two parks, comfortable beds, and none of it feeling like a shuttle run.
Tarangire gives you elephants in real numbers and baobab country that looks like nowhere else in East Africa. Ngorongoro gives you the densest concentration of large mammals on the continent inside a single morning.
The distances are short enough that almost all of your time is spent inside the parks rather than between them, which is why we recommend it so often to families and to first-timers testing the water.
Itinerary & highlights
Day 1
Arrive in Arusha
Arrive in Arusha, transfer to your lodge and meet your guide for an evening briefing before an early start.
Day 2
A full day in Tarangire
Out early for a full day of game viewing in Tarangire National Park, following the river where the herds come down to dig for water, then continue to a lodge near Karatu for the night.
Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater and return
A morning game drive on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, with lion, elephant, hippo and a genuine chance at black rhino, before ascending and returning to Arusha.
